History of Scoil Chaitríona Senior
The Parish of Renmore, as we know it today, was established in 1971. Canon Jack O'Connor (R.I.P.) was its first parish priest and he quickly set about the task of building schools to cater for the rapidly growing population. Scoil Chaitríona Senior enrolled its original 114 girls and boys on 1st July 1974, under its first principal, Mr. Pádraig O'Grady (R.I.P.). The other three teachers on the staff were Mrs. Máire Finnegan, Mrs. Maura O'Connor and Mr. Michael Kitt.
As the senior school building was as yet unfinished, the school spent its first year in classrooms belonging to Scoil Chaitríona Junior. On July 1st 1975 the 114 children and their teachers moved into their new school. Mr. Richard Burke T.D., Minister for Education, performed the official opening, and Most Rev. Dr. Michael Browne, Bishop of Galway, blessed the new complex on September 26th, 1975.
As a Catholic Primary School, with a Catholic ethos, our primary aim in Religious Education is to help the children to become aware of God's presence in their lives and to respond to his invitation to enter into a personal relationship with Him. In other words, our aim is to foster and deepen the children's faith and to continue the religious formation already begun in the Christian family following Baptism. Besides introducing the children to God through nature, human experience and values, we follow the "Alive 0" series throughout the school. The teachers prepare the children in sixth class for Confirmation. During this year, they are helped to become aware of God's love and presence in their lives, and they are helped in the development of their personal prayer life. As a Catholic school community we acknowledge, welcome and respect children of all faiths and traditions. Religious Education
